The student will analyze a news article by understanding the magnitude of the story, the comprehensiveness of the information and the reliability of the sources.

Ask students what it is that makes a story more newsworthy than others. List their answers and explain that their lesson today will be using their list with added criteria to evaluate three newspapers.
1. Go over article analysis worksheet listing the criteria of five W's for comprehensiveness of information, the impact of the event and number of people affected for magnitude and the expertise of the author and sources quoted as a measure of their reliability.
2. Distribute newspapers and have student select an article that they will analyze using the analysis worksheet.
3. Students share their articles and worksheet findings in pairs or in whole class.
Student will review the criteria for analyzing a news article.
